“Modernization of shelters”. First results

Thanks to the cooperation with Caritas Luxembourg, renovation works are underway in shelters. The goal of the project is to create comfortable conditions and ensure the basic needs of IDPs so that they can wait for victory in warmth and comfort!

A significant number of displaced persons settled in housing that local self-government bodies were able to provide. Some of them are abandoned, some were provided by the local owners, but the general condition of the houses is unsatisfactory, because with old wooden windows, thin tattered doors and stove heating, you cannot survive the winter.

In the fall, Caritas Poltava launched a project that involved the modernization of IDPs living in extremely difficult living conditions. Terms of participation in this program:

  1. Existence of vulnerability category: 1 and 2 disability groups; Critically ill patients; Pregnant, nursing mothers with children up to 2 years old; Large families; Caregivers/single mothers; Single elderly people (60+).

2. The presence of a document on the ownership of the owner who provides housing for IDPs or confirmation from local self-government bodies that IDPs live in an abandoned building that needs immediate repair.

After registration in the project, specialists evaluate the condition of the house and make an estimate. Project coordinator Oleksandr Moshenets notes that 14 communities are currently covered and more than 220 households are registered. The first repair works have already started.

The project is valid until the end of the year, but full-time employees of this program are already emphasizing that currently there is an extremely large number of requests from households that need to arrange housing. We hope to provide assistance to those most in need.
